Zeitzonen in der Antarktis
Die Antarktis erstreckt sich über alle Zeitzonen der Erde und die Südpolstation könnte jede Zeitzone wählen – sie wäre immer richtig. Die Zuteilung zu einer Zeitzone wird einerseits bestimmt durch einen Breitengrad – andererseits bei einem Zubringerdienst auf dem Luftwege vom Ausgangspunkt. So wird die US-Station McMurdo und die Südpolstation von Christchurch NZ versorgt, also ist es nur logisch dass auch beide Stationen die gleiche Zeitzone wie Neuseeland haben. Gewisse Stationen kennen auch eine Sommerzeit – da diese aber auf der Süd-Halbkugel sind sprechen wir vom Südsommer, d.h. wenn wir auf der Nord-Halbkugel Winter haben. Ausnahme sind die britischen Antarktis-Stationen, diese haben die Sommerzeit gleich wie in GB (in Wirklichkeit ist dies dort eine Winterzeit) Die Standardzeit und Sommerzeit (Südsommer) UTC (=Koordinierte Weltzeit) *)=Nordsommer
